Dr Jan-Peter Smedema

Dr Smedema has been working as a general and interventional cardiologist-in-private-practice with the Netcare Hospital Group, the largest provider of private healthcare in Southern Africa since 2005.
Dr. Smedema is an expert in performing diagnostic and interventional coronary procedures (including complex procedures), and the implantation of cardiac devices (loop recorders, pacemakers, defibrillators, septal occluders). The Blaauwberg team also recently started a TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement) program.

Dr. Smedema is also the founder of the Sport Cardiovascular Research Program. This program is focused on sport cardiology: cardiovascular research, preparticipation screening, clinical care and original research of cardiovascular (mal) adaptations in South African athletes.
